This slate has been recycled, or maybe the correct term is rescued?
There has been a pile of old roofing tiles slowly growing brambles. Their natural mellow colour means they sit unnoticed.
IAs predicted, there was some sawing. There was also hammering with a chisel as the slate was cleaved to an approximate rectangle, a process which also leaves a beautiful edge echoing the gills in the fungi. Once assembled, patination oil is used to give the piece a nice finish.
